I must have totally missed elevator gate. Mind you, I was dealing with an earthquake, tsunami, nuclear powerplant meltdown, and a baby on the way (or already here, I don't recall if you said exactly when it was). So I may have been a bit distracted. I had a friend shake me up in University. It took me a long time to truly internalize it properly, and I probably have more work to do, but I know I'm working towards being a better person. I think, hope, I've at least become better than the bear by this point.

I try to let go of realism, but I have trouble watching live-action action movies, because I can't stop thinking that _physics doesn't work like that._ When someone falls a great distance onto a hard surface, but is unhurt because they landed rolling, my brain rejects it. Any kind of impact that would obliterate a normal person, but the hero shrugs it off just because they're the hero... nope. This is not a world in which high-level characters have many times more hit points than regular people, and can ignore major damage. But when I watch an _animated_ movie, these things don't bother me nearly as much, because my brain knows that cartoon characters are very different from real people.

Dawkins should really know better -- just because there are terrible things that happen in the world, doesn't mean one should accept lesser impositions without comment. In fact, the phrase "mind the pennies, and the dollars will take care of themselves," applies here. Being more mindful of the small missteps can help prevent larger ones. Just think -- if an entire society cared about and commented on the mildly predatory nature of many male-female interactions, how many "less mild" moments might we prevent? It'll take time and a certain amount of cultural reprogramming to make any real change, but those changes happen not when we realize we're (socially) bankrupt, but rather when we pay attention every day to the minor transactions happening around (and to) us.

Sounds like what you're looking for in games are things like the dopamine hit of a power fantasy, the intellectual engagement of cinematic storytelling, and/or the ability to idly pass spare moments in an engaging way that you can stop on a dime. And that's absolutely fine. That's definitely not what I'm looking for in games, though. Guess we'll just have to play different games.

I give it a eighties percent solid 80%. Maybe i'm being biased, but everybody in the comments is being biased as well. It's a great movie. I loved it. I didn't think it lacked anything. It was just entertainment. And that's what movies are

I'm a heterosexual man (gender & sex), and I've never been made uncomfortable while in the presence of a bear. I've been in the woods, I've seen bears, and I've seen bears in the woods and have been in their presence. There's a bit of wisdom that I've found applies here: they're more afraid of you than you are of them. I'm not their food, and I'm not going to eat their food or them. I give them space, show respect, and thus far I've faced no harm. I can't say the same about homo sapiens, unfortunately. I've encountered threatening men in the office, at parties, in the bathroom, on the street, in restaurants, in other places of business, in courthouses, and especially online or on the phone. Because I speak the same language as homo sapien men, I had no trouble understanding their total lack of respect and desire to cause harm. Saying, "not all men," is a bit like saying not all mosquitos carry disease. The probability of real harm, especially when a tactical advantage may be present for them (such as being alone in the woods), is too great to ignore. I would not bring a gun with me in the woods unless I felt the need to hunt. If I lacked a deadly weapon while alone with a strange man in the woods, I would not feel properly attired. I think any human that would presume peace with their fellow man is naive. We learn from a young age (through parental teaching or traumatic experiences) that strangers are dangerous. It is safe to say this is a feature of our species and sex, and our society works because we've identified this constant threat and seek to prevent this with conventional morality (desire for order & shame) as well as preconventional morality (appeal fear and greed). We rise to our better angels less often than not; we're ultimately kept in check largely with a social contract. It's sad, it's stupid, it's agrivating, but those men who would honestly disagree with me will be the first to die. Let's add to that the biological truth of superior masculine physical strength (when taking into considerationaverages), and you'd be a fool not to choose the bear.

As an AMAB individual I have heard from my AFAB friends that I am the type of guy they would feel safe alone in an elevator with. And its great to her that, it makes me happy, I take pride in that. This isn't me trying to brag, its just me trying to show the lens I view the situation in. But to go with that I know I can't take that trust for granted. And I can't assume people who don't know me will trust me that way and not assume the worst, because that's a reasonable fear. So I know the one thing I can do to prove to the world that I'm a trustworthy man is to actively be someone worthy of trust, and to listen and show compassion. Too many people feel being a 'good person' is a kind of default assumed state, and not something you have to show through your actions, and this situation epitomizes that.

First off, Savage Cherry there at the end. But second, I'm no bird hunter... But I thought the main job of a dog for things like pheasant is to chase them into the air, or into a panic, so you can shoot them? I assume the pup was a little too gung ho, and probably chased them in the wrong direction... But if anything, pups first hunt, it sounds more like cricket had good potential as a hunting dog than that it was untrainable... Genuinely curious on my read of the situation, anyone with pheasant hunting experience able to clarify for me? That's a perspective to this story I haven't seen yet.

In the cynical sense the point of difficulty in more corporate made games is elongating playtime which keeps the player engaged which in games with microtransactions tends to increase the chances of a player buying microtransactions. In more auter led games where what the challenge is can vary wildly from puzzles to engaging with the characters in a specific manner, or as you said before pushing buttons in the right order part of the point is that the challenge switches on part of our lizard brains, another part of it is too little difficulty is like a book that is too short or a song where the rhythm and melody are off, it is discordant. As games are an interactive media part of the point of difficulty is what certain forms of difficulty summon in the player, the tension between frustration and release it tends to generate, how a lowering of difficulty by the game itself rather than settings often makes you the player feel like a badass before ratcheting it up again as part of the point of difficulty in more narrative centric rpgs at least is the continual testing of the player and how they engage mechanically with the game. As an example I don't think you played it but when armored core 6 came out there were a lot of complaints about difficulty which later led to a lot of the bosses being nerfed, conversely there were also quite a few people who complained the game was too easy as in game design terms a good few people found the 'meta' by looking up videos and strategies online and by making the game easier ruined the experience for themselves as they messed up the pacing and what the various difficult parts of the game are meant to make the player feel. A bit like someone flipping through a book rather than taking the time to actually read through it.

As a teenager I once ran into a bear on my bike ridding down a forest bike trail. Full on collided with an adult black bear. Scariest thing I'd ever seen at the time. Quickly got my self off the ground, grabbed my bike and took off faster than I've ever pedaled before. The bear made some huffs and scary noises, but it didn't chase me, or do anything other than be grumpy amd confused. As an adult who bikes I've regularly had men tailgate my bike with their trucks. Honk horns or throw things at me as they pass me in my bike lane. Not sure what this adds to the discussion, but as a cyclists I know which one I'd pick.

Steve - you're on the money re: Seinfeld's whining, but here's what I think you might have missed. This movie was not made for you. It is nothing more than Boomer Service. His eponymous sitcom is not the appropriate comparison either (that property should be compared to the old Abbott and Costello show. Personally I never cared for either show, but theres no denying the populatity of both), instead it should be compared to comparison to such movies (not "films") as It"s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, The Great Race, The Mouse on the Moon (as opposed to the superior Mouse That Roared) and whatever might be a satisfying Jerry Lewis movie, if indeed such a thing exists. And, for what it is, for its target demo, I think it succeeds, at least better than all the flicks I just compared it to which all share 1 common flaw; they're all FAR too long. Great Race and Mad World approach 3 hours, Mouse on the Moon should be one of those 80-85 minuteppp minute second features ("Double Bills" were a thing back then), but clocks in at 1:40. Unfrosted's runtime is 93 minutes, which seemed just about right to me. Seinfeld is being far less.precious about this than Stanley Kramer or Blake Edwards were about theirs. I'm certain that Seinfeld was far more ruthless in the cutting room than they were. As far as all those things you mentioned that Unfrosted did nothing with - it doesn't need to. The combination of the cultural references and the ludicrous ways in which they come up/get shoehorned in (shoehorns were also a thing back in the day) are more than enough to tickle the amygdalae of anyone old enough to remember Close'n'Play record players, Easy Bake Ovens, and Creepy Crawlers. Or Jack Gilford as The Crackerjack Man. It was a weird time, the years of the 60's just before "The Sixties" were in full swing. It was all very surfacey, and most of those surfaces were plastic and formica and vinyl coverings on velvet upholstery and the like. It's the precice era in which Mel Brooks' 2000 Year Old Man pointed out that Liquid Prell shampoo brought families together because it started conversations about how it was "concentrated", how it was ok to drop it in the shower due to it's (then super-new) plastic bottle, and how it was "pretty if you dropped a pearl into it", none of which would be remotely funny to anyone under 58, but listen to the howls it elicited on the record. This movie is no more for anyone under 55 than Ice-T's "Cop Killer" was made for my grandpa, who heard about it somewhere and flew off the handle for probably 2 weeks in the early '90's. Given what he seems to me to have been shooting for, I think he got it close to perfect (and renember: I didn't care for his sitcom) He was just shooting over the collective head of the 18- 45 year old market. As Grandma Glauman used to say of her pudding: "None for you, dear". (Look it up.)

Living openly as a trans woman provides some interesting insight to stuff like this. Because early on, before you come out, men treat you with respect pretty much on sight and you feel safe. After coming out however, when you're in positions where men view you as a woman it feels like a switch flips, and you lose that protection. And then the only time you feel safe around men is when you're in a public place or the man is viewing you as another man because you dressed down for the day and aren't wearing full makeup and accessorizing.

I generally watch for the Star Trek commentary. I noticed more content but didn't reach out for it until I got my early ballot. I saw the MD state flag and figured I had read enough voter guides maybe a vlogger could offer some local insight. If I get unsolicited insight from people who do not share my fixation, why not reach for what might be (there are political influencers out here right?) there for the taking. I submitted my ballot so I am checking for the answers that might have been there had I spent more time on the ballot or second guessing my choices. It's quaint to see MeToo has evolved (devolved) and highlighted a debate I didn't realized existed. I didn't realize that some men might not realize approaching women in a parking lot or parking garage at night might be uncomfortable or that an elevator proposition was definitely not safe. I'm grateful I haven't read someone attacking a woman that voiced her discomfort by dismissed as a self-important Karen. I thought the same kind of anxiety was pushing men to voice their discomfort in being an open bathroom alone with another person and not knowing what kinds of attractions the other person had. The phobia makes them hyper aware of other people who might feel vulnerable in public bathrooms. Empathy and compassion are hard won skills.
